4th of July in Old Sac

Kathryn DeGroot
july3rd2016 (2)On the 4th of July we celebrate the birth of our nation. What better way to get into the patriotic spirit than by heading down to historic Old Sacramento for a one-day, weekend, or summer staycation. The best part is you can start the party a day early on July 3rd at Red, White & Brews. 9 bars within two blocks will be offering $3 American beers.

After tossing back a few cold ones, head over to the waterfront for a spectacular fireworks show hosted by the River Cats after their game against the Albuquerque Isotopes.Keep in mind the fireworks are staged for people attending the game, but the majority of the show can be seen from Old Sacramento so if you want to want to hop in on the action, go to the game! Tickets sell out fast so snag them now: RiverCats.com.

If you’re more of a traditionalist, head down to Old Sacramento on the 4th of July to spend the day with your family. Enjoy lunch at Ten22 or aboard the Delta King. After you’ve finished a hearty American meal, venture out on the river for a Hornblower cruise or go back in time with a horse drawn carriage ride. The fun doesn’t stop there, so head over to the home of the River Cats and celebrate 4th on the Field. The event goes from 6  to 10 p.m. with plenty of food trucks and fun for everyone. Fireworks are scheduled to go off around 9:30 p.m and can be viewed from the waterfront in Old Sacramento.

We wish you all a happy and safe 4th of July! Remember – don’t drink and drive and no illegal fireworks are allowed in Sacramento. Read up on firework safety tips here.
