Have a brew with a side of history on a Speakeasy Tour & Pub Crawl

Kathryn DeGroot

See a side of Sacramento that you have never seen before, and learn about some of our most fun, fascinating, and mischievous history on our Speakeasy Tour in Old Sacramento. Part History lesson, part pub crawl, the Speakeasy tour kicks off at the River City Saloon on 2nd Street.

On the tour, you’ll learn about Sacramento’s pre-prohibition days as a winery and beer-brewing town, and how our city adapted as prohibition set in. Our tour guide will take you to several different bars that once were prohibition-era speakeasies and clue you into the tricks of the trade. As he gives you the scoop about drinking in Sacramento in the roaring 20s, he’ll also let your group stop, have a drink and mingle at each location.

I can tell you that if you enjoy a little history with your libations, (or a lot of libations with your history), you will absolutely love the Old Sacramento Speakeasy Tour – it does not disappoint! The Speakeasy Tour takes place on the 3rd Saturday of every month from May to July at 5:00pm and lasts about two hours. It will only set you back $15 (not including beverages). The tour is perfect for out of town guests, group get-togethers, or girls/guys night out. Our next tour is Saturday, May 23rd. Visit GoDowntownSac.com for more information. note: the Speakeasy Tour & Pub Crawl in May will take place on May 23 in conjunction with the Sacramento Music Festival.
