Meet the Bands: June 3

Katrina Gober

With metal, punk, and hardcore influences, this week’s#CIP2016 lineup rocks – and rocks hard. Join us in Cesar Chavez Plaza this Friday to experience Hail the Sun, Kill the Precedent, NMBRSTTN, Peace Killers, and Trash Rock DJ’s.

Hail The Sun

Progressive Post-Hardcore

Originally from Chico, Hail the Sun will give concertgoers an amazing, high energy show! Formed by drummer Donovan Melero and guitarist Aric Garcia (who played in a death metal band in high school), the original idea for the musical direction was to remain high-energy, while allowing melodies and harmonies to be a prominent feature, rather than just screaming to portray intense emotion. The addition of Shane Gann and John Stirrat brought additional flavors, and the group began to stretch its creative legs, allowing itself to write parts and songs that were much more heavily influenced by jazz, funk, blues, fusion, and Latin musical styles.

What was the first album you ever bought?

Frankie Valli and the Four Seasons

What’s the origin of your bands name?

The sun is imperative to all of our lives. It is the one thing that we live by. So we hail it.

What is your musical inspiration?

Our music is inspired by many groups such as Glassjaw, Primus, Yes, At The Drive In. These are all bands that have stood the test of time.

Kill the Precedent

Punk/Industrial

Returning again this year, Kill the Precedent is here to give you that loud, in-your-face music that makes you want to mosh with their hardcore energy! Initially, they formed from 3 to 4 band members all from different bands with punk and hardcore backgrounds. They have since doubled in size!

Has your band played at Concerts in the Park before?

Yes, I believe it was 4 years ago.

What are you looking forward to at Concerts in the Park?

We are looking forward to seeing old friends.

Where are other places that your band plays at?

We love the Sacramento music scene and Harlows and Ace of Spades are great venues to play at.

NMBRSTTN

Darkwave/Post-Punk

Forming in 2012, NMBRSTTN is taking the music scene by storm and making a name for themselves. Four years into their musical journey, you can tell that their music has become more self-aware and they are excited to share that with this year’s CIP audience!

What food can you not live without on tour?

Nachos…. MMMM

If you could collaborate with anyone who would it be?

Without question… Bowie!

Other than performing at Concerts in the Park, what do you enjoy doing in downtown?

We like to go to the movies, play video games, and drink some alcohol.

Peacekillers

Rock

What started out as a three-piece, blues/garage-type band, and changed after adding another guitarist. The group then began to explore darker, heavier territory ultimately coming to resemble the New Wave of British Heavy Metal (NWOBHM). In 2014 the band was signed, and their self-titled album made its debut!

What was the first gig you played?

We played The Blue Lamp in the summer of 2013. It was very hot and we barely had any songs.

What is one fun fact about you and your band?

We won Fenriz’ (Darkthrone) Band of the Week in 2014!

What are you looking forward to at Concerts in the Park?

We are looking forward to sharing our tunes with a sea of happy music lovers on a warm Friday night in our hometown!
