Dine Downtown 2016 raises more than $12,000 for Food Literacy Center

Each January, Dine Downtown Restaurant Week returns to highlight Sacramento’s flourishing dining scene, which has been receiving national attention as of late. Last year, Downtown Sacramento was named the “Next Great American Food City” by Southwest: The Magazine and Sacramento’s top chefs capitalized on that nod during Dine Downtown.

With a mission to make Downtown Sacramento the ultimate place to live, work, play, and invest, DSP’s Dine Downtown initiative gives people a reason to go out and experience the finest farm-to-fork cuisine. For the past 11 years, DSP has been driving traffic to restaurants to provide a significant boost in business. The results prove the success of this campaign; Dine Downtown has garnered an estimated $4 million in restaurant sales from 2009 – 2016.

This year with the help of our gracious Sacramento community, downtown restaurants were able to raise more than $12,200 in 10 days for Food Literacy Center.

“Food Literacy Center is thrilled by its continued partnership with Dine Downtown!” said Amber Stott, Founding Executive Director, Food Literacy Center. “The funds community members and restaurants raise together help bring cooking and nutrition classes to more low-income kids in Sacramento. This is critical in a community with a 40% childhood obesity rate. Thanks to everyone who participated!”

Dine Downtown provides a major boost for local restaurants in the slow month of January. This year alone, the Dine Downtown generated $464,776 in sales during the 10-day promotion.

“Dine Downtown provides an excellent incentive for people to try the various restaurants and experience Downtown’s dining scene,” Said Lloyd Harvego, CEO of Harvego Enterprises. “Both The Firehouse and Ten22 provide top quality menus which have been well received by diners.  This is a great opportunity to show guests what the restaurants have to offer, and we have been successful in gaining new clientele as a result of Dine Downtown.”
